Monday, June 3 - It was a Nut Filled Kind of a Day

Today was our first work day so we bolted out of the church to head to The Old Poor Farm. After a brief history of the property, we gazed upon our task for the day.  There were lots of metal parts to move down to the orchard so we could begin construction of a metal gazebo.  We were grateful for the red pickup. After a brief explanation, we had a grip on the work - no vise grip, just a good idea of where we were heading.   We wrenched the plastic off the parts and laid them out to begin following the instructions.  Many hands make light work and the gazebo started to take shape.  Ladders were held, bolts were added, and no one fell.  Kathy and Tammy commented on how the timing of our visit was perfect - a good group size to thread all the parts together.  We have a little bit to finish the gazebo in the morning.

We go to see a wide variety of animals - peacocks, goats, cats, dogs, ponies, an alpaca, chickens, ducks, a three legged calf, a large pig, a gator, and a statuesque tortoise.  We will get another chance to tour the property and learn more of the history tomorrow.

Heading back to church, the drivers took a short deviation and saw the tornado damage on the west side of town.  It was to see broken trees, metal wrapped around trunks, and roofs off houses.

Making breakfast this morning, Group 1 - Ruth, Anna, Bruce, Corbin, and Barbara - discovered that you can't make too many scrambled eggs.  More eggs will be cracked tomorrow morning.  Dinner was prepared by Group 2 - Rob, Tyler, Zack, Caleb, and Pam.  Devotions were lead by Group 3 - JinHee, Melanie, Cora, and Gene.  Everyone is headed off to bed now.

Thanks for reading about our week.  Don't hesitate to write us.
